Twice tonight, in two entirely different fics, with two different authors I've run across the word limned as in:
1. It’s lit softly by a moon-shaped night lamp sitting atop a tall chest of drawers, and Susie’s limned by the glow of it through the frizz of her hair.
And
2. Dean turns around in his arms, steps back so he's limned against the window light, pressed against the glass, and his face is old.
I've never come across this word before in my life. Now today, I see it twice? Weird coincidence, right?
What does this word even mean?
