When writing in the Silent Hill fandom, should you use the game as canon? As in Silent Hill is a town in Maine, or the movie, in which Silent Hill resides in Toluca County, West Virginia.

Game universe, absolutely.

If you use the movie-verse then you may get a ton of people jumping on you and saying that you're only into it from the movies, etc.

Thanks! (I don't know why they had to change that detail anyway. Oh yeah, coal fires burning out of control underground explain the fog instead of the creepy and ominous lake alongside the town.)

So for the purposes of my fic, Silent Hill is located in Maine and will take at least two or three days to drive to from Indiana.

It is located in Maine in the game, right? *wibbles , can't remember if right or not*

Thanks for the wiki article. I had it bookmarked, but lost it somewhere along the way.

Funny how even there they can't pinpoint Silent Hill's location. In the first game, flyers are seen with the words "Chicago News".

Then the lakes name is Toluca Lake which gives people the idea it's located in Southern California.

And then lastly, in Silent Hill 4, there is a strip club with a Maine address.

I'm guessing this is part of the allure of the game. It's every town with secrets and can be everywhere and nowhere all at once.

Yeah, it's never really confirmed where Silent Hill actually is, but theorists have narrowed it down to the New England area - probably Maine, considering the game's inspirations.

A Supernatural/Silent Hill crossover.

So far it's going pretty good, I just needed to iron what was considered canon vs fanon, know what I mean?
