His feet moved below him, the coffee cup hot in his hand.

it’s alright…

Could he trust this? Could he trust the prayer rolling around like a litany in his head?

Maybe...

Everyone survived, miraculously. All three of them were going to walk out of this place.

we won’t fight anymore.

They still had the colt and the bullet. They could still track down the demon.

I don’t know...I don’t know.

The car could be fixed, damn it. They still had Dad’s truck if it couldn’t be.

But maybe, just maybe...

The coffee cup slipped from his hand.

you just know sam's world got a whole lot brighter between dad sending him out for coffee and dean waking up, and then got a hell of a lot dimmer right after, and this mirrors that perfectly, the little bit of hope and the sudden knowledge that no, it's not going to be ok.

Thank you for reading. Sam completely and utterly broke my heart in that scene, the walking down the hallway, catching his father out of the corner of his eye, the realization and then...you know.

That episode still hurts.
